Volunteering for Citizens Advice Crawley - find out more!

Would you like to make a real difference in the community, helping and supporting people, while gaining invaluable skills and experience? Are you keen to keep mentally active, work in a team and feel like you're doing something really worthwhile? Have you ever thought about volunteering for Citizens Advice?
We're a local registered charity. At Citizens Advice Crawley, our volunteers and staff helped more than 3,200 local people last year*. Our advice can be life-changing. Now we’re looking for new volunteer advisers to join us, and we're excited to tell you more about it.

Please register to join us for this friendly, informative event. We'll be giving a presentation from staff and volunteers who will tell you all about what it's like volunteering for us. You'll find out about the huge impact our work has, and we'll give you the lowdown on the sort of role you'll be working in, the office environment, the training and support you'll receive, and the time commitment we'd be looking for. You’ll also have the chance to ask questions. There will of course be tea, coffee and biscuits!

The presentation will end by 12pm, but if you'd like to sign up now for an interview, to take place after the presentation, you can do that now. You can book an interview slot via the links on this page; please note, we'd like you to come to the presentation too so you can get a really good idea of what it's like volunteering for us. Please take a look at the FAQs below for more information. If you'd rather just come to the presentation, find out more and then have an interview another day, that's fine too.

Please note - we are not currently interviewing for volunteer receptionists, but if you'd like to come for the presentation and find out more about the role and what we do, you'd be very welcome.

We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and with a huge range of experience, and we’re registered as a Disability Confident employer. We do ask that our volunteers have a working knowledge of computers, and that you're able to research and understand complex information, and convey it clearly to clients.

We hope you’ll be able to join us, and we look forward to meeting you!

If I want to have an interview on the day, how do I book my time slot?
Please join us for the presentation at 10am, to give you all the information you need about volunteering. We're offering six interview slots on the day, and these will take place after the presentation:

https://www.advicewestsussex.org.uk/volunteering/apply/.
If all interview slots are taken, don’t worry – you can still come to the presentation and complete your application form, and we’ll set up a phone interview for you after the event.
Please note, we're not currently interviewing for volunteer receptionists, but you're very welcome to come along to the presentation and find out more.

What can I expect from my interview?
Our interviews are a chance for you to ask questions about us, as well as for us to find out about you. Our interviewers are friendly and interested, and they want to bring out the best in you. If you think something that’s happened in your life (that’s nothing to do with work experience) adds to your suitability, tell us! Life experience is just as important in this role as work experience. We do ask though that you have a working knowledge of how to use computers, as you will be using a computer when you’re volunteering for us.

I'd prefer not to have an interview on the day. Is that ok?
Yes. If you’d rather go away after the event and think about everything you’ve heard, to apply online later on, that’s absolutely fine. If you’d rather not apply at all, that’s fine too!

Is there anything I shouldn’t bring into the event with me?
We ask that you don’t bring any recording equipment into the event, please.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?
Please send an email to volunteer@westsussexcab.org.uk.
